ABSTRACT
As a socialworker and, later a psychotherapist, I have met children, adolescents and their caregivers for almost 30 years. Since 2007 I have been involved in a research project at our clinic concerning family violence. The results from the study show that almost 50 % of the patients have experienced violence in the family, either as a witness to intimate partner violence or as abused themselves. The National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden recommends all Child and Adolescent Psychiatric (CAP) Units to ask routinely about family violence. Professionals working in health care make reports to the Social Services if need for child protection is discovered. The Social Services have the assignment to assess and make decisions about child protection. But what happens after reporting family violence? Is child protection also a question for CAP Units and is it a condition for successful treatment?
I am a PhD student since 2015 and the topic for my research is why CAP Units should care about child protection, assess risk and security for children, adolescents and their caregivers.
In this sub plenary presentation I am going to talk about the research interlaced with experiences from practice.
