Abstract

This workshop reviews literature describing systemic therapy and its basic elements and our re-discovering work on the original descriptions of systemic therapy interventions. This presentation will be based on the development of Milan systemic family therapy and then move on to postmodern definitions and descriptions. Aim of our re-discovering work is to propose a comprehensive definition of “post systemic therapy in order to meet political and ethical demands, especially within the field of mental health. Our proposed definition draws on elements from the Batesonian and Milan tradition, as well as the narrative, postmodern, and dialogical developments. This project can help practitioners outside the systemic field to understand what systemic therapy is, and to support “insiders” in better describing the foundations and practices systemic therapy.
